There's something about a mosaic that seems to drive guys
wild.

In Tarsus district of Mersin province, the Tarsus Museum Directorate
determined that yet another illegal excavation was being conducted,
this time in the garden of a house in the Şehit Mustafa neighborhood.
When a tip came in that the excavation had uncovered an ancient mosaic,
the district chief ordered a raid on the property.

The raid revealed a hole 4 meters deep and 3 meters wide, at the bottom
of which was a 4-5-square meter mosaic with fish and bird figures on it.
There was also a column stone that was determined to be a sarcophagus,
80 centimeters in size. Because of the risk of collapse, the mosaic had
not been removed from its location.

In the 12 January raid, suspect Selah A. was taken into custody.  But
after this arrest, news of activity at the site continued to reach authorities
so a second raid was ordered and Mehmet Ali T., Mithat B., Mehmet Ç.,
Harun O. and Servet K.  were taken into custody at the excavation.
Another two individuals with ties to these 5, Sadettin K. and Sinan Can,
were also taken into custody.
